Sicilian drawn
The antique stitch has Sicilian backgrounds and its geometric patterns take inspiration from the nearby Arabian world. Several traces of this embroidery can be found in works from the 15th century. It was a custom for Sicilian ladies to create personal drawing albums that would eventually be passed around in the family thus creating precious drawing archives. During the 16th century some of the most famous drawers of embroideries published their drawings especially created for the antique stitch.

How to work it:

Antique stitch belongs to the family of counted flosses to realize on cloths of regular and invisible woofs, identical in both directions, such as linen and it is characterized by a succession of full motives (royal stitch, grass stitch, square stitch, drawstring) and empty ones (nets) in geometric patterns, alternated and repeated for the suitable number of times, in order to create unique works.
